Fred Zinn of Battle Creek, Michigan, served from August 24, 1914 to February 1, 1916, in the foreign Legion, where he was wounded. He transferred to the French Aviation Service on February 14, 1916. He served as gunner and bombardier with Escadrille F-14 from December 12, 1916, until October 21, 1917. He was attached to American GHQ at Chaumont and served there as a captain, US Air Service, until the Armistice.
