Van Voast, Rufus Adrian, M.D., '06. Enlisted private Foreign Legion, French Army, August 24, 1914; promoted assistant surgeon in September; relieved from active duty Septmeber 1915; honorably discharged January 1916; returned to United States. Commissioned 1st lieutenant Medical Corps April 8, 1917; assigned to Section 510, U.S, Army Ambulance Service, and designated officer in command; sailed for France August 7; appointed purchasing officer Medical Department, A.E.F., October 8; transferred to Headquarters 77th Division July 8, 1918 and appointed sanitary inspector; promoted captain August 20; returned to United States February 10, 1919; discharged February 11, 1919. Commissioned captain Medical Officers' Reserve Corps March 29, 1919. Engagements: Reims front 1914-1915, Champagne-Marne defensive 1918, Aisne-Oise offensive.
